Sussex Maths Hubs are holding this fantastic Maths conference for Key Stage 1-4 teachers and support staff in all primary and secondary settings throughout Sussex.

This exciting conference will include:

  • A key note speech by Jon Smedley – Founder and MD of Maths of the Day.
  • Practical and fun workshops covering a range of topics that you can take away and apply in your own setting.
  • The opportunity to network with other practitioners.
  • News and updates about other professional development opportunities.

There will be 18 workshops available, and you will get the chance to choose which you would like to attend before the event.

COST: £40.00 per ticket

There will be refreshments, and a buffet style lunch included.

This project aims to explore effective ways of teaching key content of the new GCSE to resit students. Working collaboratively, teachers of resit groups from FE and schools will develop and share effective ways to approach the new GCSE, with a focus on issues particularly affecting this sector such as: student confidence and motivation, condensed timeframe, and large student numbers.

This work group is FREE and it is NEW! The work group:

  • Seeks to support and develop the effective delivery of GCSE maths resits
  • Is for anyone involved with post-16 GCSE resit maths in FE colleges, sixth forms and with other providers
  • Includes three meetings spread over a six month period with interim tasks following the first and second meetings
  • Includes a talk about a model for multiplicative reasoning ,from Emma McCrea

Come and join other teachers from the area as we work together to support and develop the effective delivery of GCSE maths resits.

The new A level requires that the use of technology ‘permeates’ study of maths and statistics modules. Run in partnership with the Advanced Maths Support Programme, Work Groups in this project will explore practical approaches for integrating technology in the curriculum. Participants will explore where, when and how to use technology to enhance students’ understanding, learning and experience, and will develop their own technology skills

The Sussex Maths Hub has worked hard to share practice on the Teaching for Mastery approach in the primary phase. Some of this has been distilled into a 3-day course that has been delivered over the last few years. It has provided many primary teachers with a concentrated introduction to Teaching for Mastery through practical sessions. This year, we have three courses, all of whomhave started. We hope to run the courses again next year so please do contact us to register your interest.

Following a successful project last year, the Sussex Maths Hub is seeking to work with Mathematics Departments and A-Level Mathematics teachers who are keen to develop the use of Technology in the teaching of A-Level Mathematics. This will also benefit the teaching of Mathematics at other levels. This project will focus on developing the use of DESMOS to embed pre-made teaching resources into your department strategy and day-to-day use; to enhance the student experience. A bank of resources will be shared with you, and you will learn how to create your own new investigative activities for different topics, applicable at KS3, 4 and 5.
