About the Event
Bookings for 2024/25 are now open.
Who can take part?
Current teachers of A level Maths who are looking to deepen their own and their colleagues pedagogical understanding and may already have completed other A level subject knowledge and pedagogy CPD.
Aims:
· Participants (and Maths department members in participants schools) will gain a better understanding of the functions of the graphic calculator.
· Participants (and Maths department members in participants schools) will improve their understanding of how the calculator functions might impact teaching, learning and/or assessment.
· Students will be able to confidently use functions of the calculator effectively and efficiently.
This Work Group will focus on using the Numworks Graphic Calculator, but many of the ideas, resources and discussions will be relevant to users of other calculators too.
We will be running a Hybrid Work Group with a mix of online collaborative twilight sessions and a summer face-to-face event.
Sept – April: 10 x 1-hour online sessions (approx. 1 session every 3-weeks)
1st Introductory Session
3 x Pure Maths sessions
3 x Statistics sessions
3 x Further Maths sessions
June: Meeting/Mini-Conference,
Face-to-Face, full day.
More Sessions on Particular Topics
Feedback session to share participants ideas and resources
All participants will be expected to attend the initial introductory session and the face-to-face event next summer. Participants will then sign up for at least five of the topic-based sessions. This way participants can focus on the areas of Maths that they will be teaching.
Each session will include:
· Introduction to the relevant functions on the calculator.
· Using the calculator to try some Maths questions.
· Discussions on how the calculator might impact teaching, learning and/or assessment.
You and your department will have a better understanding of how ideas behind teaching for mastery can be used in the classroom.
The Developing A Level Pedagogy project is fully funded by the Maths Hubs Programme and the AMSP so is free to participating schools/colleges.
