About the Event

APPLICATIONS FOR 2023/24 ARE NOW CLOSED. PLEASE USE THE LINK TO APPLY TO OUR WAITING LIST.

What is involved?

Knowledge of multiplication and division and its applications forms the single most important aspect of the KS2 curriculum and is the gateway to success at secondary school.

It is also a key area that pupils often struggle with. Automaticity with multiplication tables relieves cognitive load and develops pupils’ confidence to achieve success.

This project enables students in years 4 and 5 to develop fluency in multiplication and division facts, and a confidence and flexibility with number that exemplifies good number sense.

Teaching materials will be provided to cover five short sessions a week, with participants expected to support colleagues in their year groups to use the resources with all Year 4 and 5 classes.

Who can take part?

Lead participants from Work Group schools will be two teachers – one each from Year 4 and Year 5 – known as Lead Teachers. Some support will also be given to subject leaders and headteachers. Where appropriate, Lead Teachers are expected to support the other teachers in their year group.

The project offers schools that are involved in Mastering Number at Reception and KS1, and are also in a Sustaining Work Group, the opportunity for teachers to develop the knowledge and skills to secure good multiplicative number sense and automaticity in times tables. The programme will focus on Years 4 and 5. Junior schools who are in a Sustaining Work Group may also apply.

What is the cost?

The Mastering Number Programme is fully funded by the Maths Hubs Programme so is free to participating schools.
