Who can take part?
Leaders looking develop collaborative practice across departments, and for teachers who want to build greater coherence between Maths and Science.
Two teachers from each school (one from the Maths Dept and one from the Science Dept) will work together to establish similarities and differences in teaching approaches to help develop a cohesive experience for pupils.
What is involved?
Maths is taught across many different subjects in a secondary school, not least in the Science department.
We will be looking at how language, context, structures and representations may be used between Science and Maths departments to help the student understanding.
Although the sequencing of the topics is also an important part of the collaborative process, this Work Group will focus more on how we teach these topics rather than when.
Please note – one maths and one science teacher from each school to attend.
This work group will consist of three f-2-f sessions. Please note that participants must attend all three sessions. Dates are as follows:
17th December 2025 (9.30-3.00pm) Venue: The Sir Robert Woodard Academy, Lancing
4th February 2026 (9.30-3.00pm) Venue: Downlands Community School, Hassocks
21st April 2026 (9.30-3.00pm) Venue: Downlands Community School, Hassocks
What is the cost?
The Building Coherence across Maths and Science project is fully funded by the Maths Hubs Programme so is free to participating schools.
