TARGETED SUPPORT IN MATHEMATICS

Bespoke, fully funded support for primary and secondary schools to develop the teaching and learning of mathematics.

Research by the Maths Hubs Programme, shows evidence that there are some schools that do not have the capacity to benefit from standard Teaching for Mastery Programmes and that Maths Hubs need to provide additional, bespoke support for schools.

Since the launch of Targeted Support: • Over 2,900 schools have received Targeted Support in Mathematics.

Targeted Support in Maths supports Primary & Secondary schools through one of two ways; Enhanced Support and Intensive Support.

ENHANCED SUPPORT

Support for schools across both primary and secondary phases to develop and embed improvements in maths teaching and learning.

Who can take part?

Schools can access Enhanced support if they do not currently have the capacity to meet the intended outcomes of the standard teaching for mastery offer in which they are involved. Participant schools must be committed to developing a long-term relationship with the Maths Hub in order to sustain improvements in maths.

What you need to know

Participants are schools that do not currently have the capacity to meet the intended outcomes of the standard teaching for mastery offer in which they are involved. These schools need to be committed to developing a long-term relationship with the Maths Hub in order to sustain improvements in maths.

School leaders will create an implementation plan that sets out how the school will achieve the improvements identified. There will be at least one named Targeted Support Contact (TSC) in each supported school.

Schools can join this project at any point during the academic year, and support may extend across more than one academic year.

What is involved?

Schools taking part will receive bespoke support from a Maths Hubs Enhanced Support Partner (ESP). The ESP will work with the school to develop an implementation planning process for maths which supports current and future capacity for managing change, and to build the relationship between the school and the Maths Hub.

Benefits

  • school leaders will follow a bespoke school development process to identify and address priority areas for maths

  • teachers will demonstrate developed practice in a focused area of maths teaching

  • school leaders will understand what constitutes good foundations for implementing teaching for mastery

As a school, we do feel far more empowered in our maths offering, and we can see the positive results of this in the attitude and attainment of learners with regards to maths.

HEADTEACHER - TARGETED SUPPORT IN MATHS 2025/26

Thank you for all your support in getting us to this point of strength.

What a difference it has made in the children's confidence as well as my own!

We are, of course, hopeful that this will show in the results, but I have already had the pleasure of seeing their progress in our daily maths lessons.
